Selecting WIDIA TDMX modular drill bodies and heads
A TDMX drilling system combines a reusable body with a replaceable cutting head. The metric 3xD side-lock body pages separate the body’s diameter range, insert seat, maximum drilling depth, shank dimensions and insert gage length. Head pages identify the exact drill diameter, point length, geometry and grade. Select both components by material number.
Body-to-head fit and workpiece selection
Match the exact published body-to-head pairing, seat size and permitted diameter range before choosing a head for the workpiece. The body’s nominal diameter alone is not a complete compatibility check. For a specified hole depth, consider the body’s maximum drilling depth together with the selected head’s point geometry and the required hole form.
PK heads in WP40PD grade are listed for steel and cast iron drilling. MS heads in WM15PD grade address stainless steel and high-temperature alloys. FPE heads in WP40PD grade have four margins and are listed for steel and cast iron applications. Use the exact head’s application information when deciding between geometries; secondary material suitability does not make the options identical.
Frequently asked questions
Does a TDMX body include a cutting head?
Treat body and head as separate selection items. Include both material numbers and required quantities in the quote so Tech Tool can confirm package contents and the supplied assembly.
Can any TDMX head fit any TDMX body?
No. Check the exact component listing, seat size and allowed diameter range. A common TDMX platform name is not sufficient evidence of fit.
Can I replace the head without removing the body from the holder?
The TDMX front-clamp design supports head changes with the body retained in the holder. Follow the applicable manufacturer assembly procedure and use the correct body-specific clamping screw and driver.
What information helps Tech Tool quote the complete drill?
Provide the body and head material numbers, quantities, workpiece material, hole diameter and depth, coolant arrangement and any holder constraints. Tech Tool will confirm the component combination, pricing, availability and package quantities.
