Technical guidance & FAQs

Applications and materials

Guhring PowerTap 4402 is an HSS-E spiral-point tap for UNC through-hole threads. The Steam Oxide finish and Form B lead support cut tapping, with steel rated optimal and stainless steel, cast irons and nonferrous metals listed as secondary applications.

Choosing a configuration

Choose the UNC diameter and threads per inch, then match H limit, tap-drill size, shank and square dimensions to the thread requirement and holder.

Compatibility and use

The spiral point directs chips forward into the through hole. Provide clearance beyond the thread and use the Steam Oxide column of the PowerTap starting-speed guide.

Is PowerTap 4402 for through or blind holes?

4402 is the UNC spiral-point family for through-hole tapping. For a UNC blind-hole option, compare PowerTap 4407.

Does 4402 form threads without chips?

No. It is a cutting tap. A form tap uses a different geometry and tap-drill requirement.

Which thread system does 4402 cut?

UNC, specified by nominal inch diameter and threads per inch. UNF and metric PowerTap taps are separate series.
