SCHUNK toolholding and tool clamping components

Toolholding connects the machine interface to the cutting-tool shank. Hydraulic, heat-shrink, polygonal and mechanical systems have distinct clamping methods and associated components. Extensions and sleeves must be reviewed as part of the complete assembly.

Choose by the application, then the configuration

Identify the machine spindle interface and the cutting-tool shank first. Then review the clamping method, projection and available clearance. A holder, extension and reducing sleeve form an assembly whose individual interfaces must all be checked.

Compare dimensional references using the selected article’s drawing. Read run-out and balancing statements with their stated test conditions, and distinguish coolant options from standard features. Include the machine interface and tool-shank details when asking our team to confirm a selection.

Specifications that matter

Review machine interface, tool shank, clamping technology, projection, run-out conditions and coolant arrangement. Read each value with its units and the conditions attached to it. Where the drawing uses a reference letter or subscript, match that reference to the table instead of relying on the apparent proportions of the illustration.

Keep related dimensions together when reviewing the assembly. Overall size, usable length and mounting dimensions describe different requirements. A blank or dash is not a zero value, and an illustration does not establish a tolerance. If a required value is not stated, obtain it before making a fit or performance decision.

Read drawings and manufacturer documents together

Use the selected product’s technical table, dimension drawing and supporting manufacturer documents together. Check the article or EDP identifier and the document’s stated family or configuration scope. A general catalog page can provide context, but it should not override a current product-specific listing when the two disagree.

For a replacement, record the existing identifier and version as well as the required dimensions. For a new assembly, check both sides of every connection. Similar product names, a shared manufacturer and matching nominal dimensions do not by themselves prove compatibility. Follow the selected product’s installation and operating instructions.

Frequently asked questions

Does Dual Contact fit every machine interface?

A Dual Contact version requires the corresponding machine interface. Confirm the exact machine and holder specifications before ordering.

How do I choose the correct spindle interface?

Identify the machine’s specified interface and the exact holder version. Compare the manufacturer’s interface designation and drawing; a similar taper name does not establish a complete fit.

What should I provide for toolholding assistance?

Send the machine interface, cutting-tool shank dimensions, required projection, machining application and coolant requirements. Include the exact holder or extension article when known.

How should I compare accuracy statements?

Keep each statement with its stated measurement conditions, diameter and test length. Do not transfer a family-level claim to an article whose specifications do not state it.
