Choose form taps by thread specification
Compare chipless thread-forming tools by exact manufacturer EDP, thread designation and body dimensions. This collection includes Guhring configurations; use the product table to select the required limit and size.
Match geometry and hole condition
Form taps displace workpiece material rather than cutting chips. Confirm material suitability, the specified pre-hole, thread engagement and lubrication before substituting for a cut tap.
Keep size, limit and body dimensions distinct
Nominal thread size alone is not a complete tap specification. Check pitch, H/D limit, shank diameter, square, overall length and thread length. Read the units on each field, particularly for metric threads on ANSI-body taps.
Plan the pre-hole and process
Use the selected EDP’s tap-drill range and relevant manufacturer guidance. Include material condition, available depth, holder, machine and lubricant when requesting application help.
Frequently asked questions
What should I send for a tap quote?
Include the exact EDP or order code, thread designation, limit, quantity and required date. Add the workpiece material, drawing and blind or through-hole condition for selection support.
Can taps with the same thread size be exchanged?
Compare limits, geometry, pre-hole requirements, coating and physical dimensions first. A matching nominal thread does not establish equivalent application or fit.
