Oemeta Hytap: The "Broken Tap" Insurance Policy

The Oemeta Hytap Series is the premier line of heavy-duty thread-cutting fluids and pastes. Engineered with High-Performance Esters, Hytap is designed to handle the extreme torque and friction of tapping, thread forming, and reaming. Unlike dirty sulfur-chlorinated oils that stain parts and irritate skin, Hytap is free of heavy metals and chlorine. Manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah, these fluids provide the process security needed to ensure that your most critical operation—the final thread—is perfect every time.

Why Shops Choose the Hytap Series

The Hytap platform (featuring Hytap 12Standard Hytap, and Hytap Paste) is the choice for machinists who cannot afford to scrap a part due to a seized tap.

1. Torque Reduction (Polar Bonding)

The Problem: Tapping generates massive friction at the cutting edge. If the oil film breaks, the tap binds and snaps. The Hytap Solution: Hytap uses Synthetic Esters that possess "Polarity." They magnetically bond to the metal surface, creating a lubricating film that is nearly impossible to wipe off—even under the extreme pressure of thread forming. This significantly lowers torque, preventing tap breakage in tough alloys like Inconel and Stainless Steel.

2. Chlorine-Free & Clean

The Problem: Traditional dark tapping oils rely on Chlorine and Sulfur. They smell terrible, stain aluminum parts, and are hazardous to dispose of. The Hytap Solution: Hytap is Chlorine-Free. It runs clean and clear (or amber), leaving precise, shiny threads without the "rotten egg" smell. It is non-staining to yellow metals and aluminum, eliminating the need for aggressive post-process washing.

3. Coolant Compatibility

The Problem: When operators brush heavy tapping oil onto a part, it eventually washes off into the machine sump, creating sludge and "Monday Morning Stink." The Hytap Solution: As an Oemeta product, Hytap is formulated to be Coolant-Neutral. When it washes off into your Unimet or Hycut emulsion, it acts as a "soluble" oil, dispersing without destabilizing the coolant chemistry or causing "cream" layers to form.

Technical Insights: Choosing Your Viscosity

Match the fluid thickness to the hole size.

Hytap 12 (The Penetrator)

  • Viscosity: Thin / Liquid (~12 cSt)
  • Best For: Small diameter blind holes (< 1/4" or M6) and deep drilling.
  • Why: Its water-like consistency allows it to flow instantly to the bottom of the hole, flushing chips out and ensuring the tip is lubricated.

Standard Hytap (The Heavy Lifter)

  • Viscosity: Medium / Honey-Like (~220 cSt)
  • Best For: Large diameter threads and hard metals.
  • Why: The thicker film strength provides maximum cushioning for heavy cuts in Steel and Titanium.

Hytap Paste (The Clinger)

  • Viscosity: Paste / Cream
  • Best For: Horizontal tapping, reaming, and overhead work.
  • Why: It clings to the tool and won't drip off, ensuring the lubricant stays exactly where you need it during slow, high-load cuts.

Tech Tool Support & Availability

When you source Oemeta products through Tech Tool, you gain a national fluid management partner:

  • Rapid Deployment: Inventory is stocked in US Distribution Centers (Bottles, Pails, and Tubes).
  • Fluid Lab Access: Need to thread a weird alloy? Contact our Technical Team for a specific product recommendation.
  • Compliance Ready: We provide dedicated SDS compliance support (Chlorine-Free, Heavy Metal-Free).

Recommended Equipment

Manual application requires simple but effective tools.

  • Application: Use Acid Brushes for Paste to prevent waste. Use Needle-Tip Squeeze Bottles for Hytap 12 to hit precise blind holes.
  • Cleaning: While Hytap is compatible with coolant, finished parts can be easily cleaned with Oemeta Cleaner 100 EC or standard alkaline washers.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Hytap safe for Aluminum?

A: Yes. Hytap is non-staining and excellent for Aluminum. In fact, its high lubricity is perfect for Roll Forming (Form Tapping) in aluminum, where preventing material pickup (galling) on the tool is critical.

Can I use this for drilling?

A: Absolutely. While named "Hytap," it is an extreme-pressure lubricant. It is excellent for Reaming, Gundrilling, and Sawing operations where standard coolant isn't enough.

Does it contain Sulfur?

A: Hytap relies primarily on Ester Technology. It is free of active sulfur (the kind that stains), making it safe for Aerospace and Medical parts where sulfur residues are often prohibited.
