Oemeta Slip Agent: The "Coolant-Safe" Assembly Lubricant
The Oemeta Slip Agent (Gleitmittel WL 1) is a specialized, water-miscible lubricant designed for the assembly of rubber seals, hoses, and precision components. Unlike petroleum jellies or silicone greases that contaminate machine sumps, Gleitmittel WL 1 is engineered to be fully compatible with Oemeta cooling lubricants. Manufactured in Salt Lake City, Utah, it provides the necessary lubricity for difficult assembly tasks while ensuring your downstream wash cycles and coolant systems remain free of insoluble oil residues.
Why Shops Switch to Gleitmittel WL 1
The Slip Agent platform is the "Hidden Gem" for assembly lines that feed into machining centers. It solves the contamination issues caused by standard assembly greases.
1. 100% Water Miscibility
The Problem: Standard assembly grease (like White Lithium) is hydrophobic. When a greased part enters a machine or washer, the grease floats to the top, clogging filters and forming "scum lines" on parts. The WL 1 Solution: Gleitmittel WL 1 is Water Soluble. If excess lubricant washes off into your coolant tank or parts washer, it simply dissolves into the emulsion. It essentially "disappears" into the fluid, causing zero separation, scum, or filter blinding.
2. Elastomer Compatibility (O-Ring Safe)
The Problem: Using the wrong oil to insert an O-ring can cause the rubber to swell or crack over time, leading to warranty failures in the field. The WL 1 Solution: WL 1 is formulated specifically for Elastomer Compatibility. It allows O-rings, seals, and hoses to slide into place without friction damage ("pinching") and is neutral to standard rubber compounds (Buna-N, Viton, EPDM), preventing long-term degradation.
3. "Stick-Slip" Prevention
The Problem: Pressing tight-tolerance metal or rubber parts together often results in "chatter" or jerky movement (Stick-Slip), which can damage the surface finish. The WL 1 Solution: WL 1 creates a high-strength lubricating film that allows for smooth, consistent sliding friction. This is critical for automated assembly cells where consistent insertion force is required to prevent robot errors.
Technical Insights: Application & Removal
How to use a water-miscible lube in production.
Application Method
Gleitmittel WL 1 is a liquid-viscosity agent, making it easier to control than thick grease.
- Manual: Apply with a brush or sponge to the seal/bore.
- Automated: Can be sprayed or misted in automated assembly cells.
- Result: The water content evaporates, leaving a thin, high-lubricity film that stays in place during the assembly process.
Easy Wash-Off
Because it is water-miscible, removing WL 1 is effortless. You do not need harsh solvents. A standard Warm Water Rinse or a quick dip in an aqueous washer (using Oemeta Cleaner) will remove 100% of the residue, leaving the part clinically clean for painting or plating.
Tech Tool Support & Availability
When you source Oemeta products through Tech Tool, you gain a national fluid management partner:
- Rapid Deployment: Inventory is stocked in US Distribution Centers (Pails and Drums).
- Compatibility Check: Unsure if WL 1 works with your specific seal material? Contact our Fluid Lab for a compatibility report.
- Compliance Ready: We provide dedicated SDS compliance support (Non-Hazardous, skin-friendly formulation).
Recommended Equipment
Since this is an assembly agent, application control is key.
- Application: Use Industrial Spray Bottles or Acid Brushes for precise application to bores and seals.
- Dilution: WL 1 is typically used Neat (100%) for assembly, but can be diluted with water for lighter duty sliding applications.
- Verification: If you dilute it, use a Refractometer to verify the concentration (acts just like coolant).
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this as a Way Lube?
A: Generally, no. While it provides slip, standard CNC ways require a "tacky" oil to stick to vertical columns. WL 1 is designed for assembly and insertion, not for sustaining heavy loads on box ways over days of operation.
Will it foam if it gets in my coolant?
A: No. WL 1 is formulated with Low-Foaming Surfactants. Even if a significant amount washes off into your high-pressure coolant sump, it will not cause the machine to foam over.
Is it safe for painted parts?
A: Yes. The formulation is neutral (pH balanced) and does not contain aggressive solvents. It is safe to use on painted, anodized, or powder-coated surfaces without risk of staining or peeling.
