Selecting refractometers

Compare optical and digital instruments by measurement range, resolution, sample requirements and model-specific features. A Brix reading must be converted using the selected coolant manufacturer’s factor.

Follow the instrument’s calibration and cleaning instructions and the fluid supplier’s sampling guidance. Replacement covers and droppers are accessories. An instrument supplied with a certificate and a calibration service for an instrument you already own are different offerings.

Make readings useful for maintenance

  • Identify the exact coolant and its specified conversion method before recording a concentration result.
  • Check the instrument range and follow its calibration, sample-handling and cleaning instructions.
  • Record the measured reading separately from the calculated or supplier-interpreted concentration so the method remains traceable.
  • For service requests, identify the instrument model and documentation required; confirm whether you need an instrument, an accessory, a certificate or work on an existing instrument.

Questions before you select

Is the Brix reading my coolant concentration?

Not by itself. Use the coolant supplier’s product-specific conversion method or refractometer factor. Do not assume the same factor applies to different fluids or multi-component systems.

What matters when comparing optical and digital models?

Compare measurement range, resolution, sample requirements, calibration method and the features stated for the exact model. Confirm that the instrument and any enclosure or accessories match the selected configuration.

Is a calibration certificate the same as calibration service?

No. An instrument offered with a certificate and a service for an instrument you already own are different offerings. Confirm the exact item, included documentation and service requirements before requesting a quote.
