Residue Control: Eliminate Sticky Film & Haze

The Coolant Residue Essentials collection is the definitive toolkit for shops fighting sticky machines, hazy windows, and tacky parts. Residue is rarely "just how the coolant is"—it is a visible symptom of chemical imbalance. Whether it is "Syrup" (Over-Concentration) or "Soap Scum" (Hard Water Minerals), this collection provides the Precision MixingMonitoring, and Filtration Tools required to keep your machine surfaces clean and dry, reducing the need for constant wipe-downs.

The 3 Causes of Buildup (and the Fix)

Sticky machines are usually caused by three factors: Concentration, Water Quality, and Tramp Oil. This collection solves all three.

1. The "Syrup" Effect (Concentration)

The Problem: As water evaporates, coolant concentration rises. If you let a 7% coolant climb to 15%, it becomes a thick, sticky syrup that coats everything.

The Solution: You must measure before you mix. A Coolant Refractometer tells you the real percentage instantly. A Dosatron Mixer then ensures you add lean makeup fluid (e.g., 2%) to bring the sump back to the target, washing away the sticky residue naturally.

2. The "Soap Scum" Effect (Hard Water)

The Problem: Minerals in hard tap water (Calcium/Magnesium) react with coolant soaps to form a grey, sticky sludge (Calcium Stearate) that clogs filters and coats windows.

The Solution: Use Hardness Test Strips to check your water quality. If your water is hard (> 10 grains), you need to switch to RO water or use a coolant designed for hard water.

3. The "Varnish" Effect (Tramp Oil)

The Problem: Hydraulic oil doesn't just float; it eventually dries into a brown, varnish-like gum on machine ways and doors.

The Solution: Nimatic Belt Skimmers remove this oil while it is still liquid. By pulling it out of the tank immediately, you prevent it from ever drying onto your work envelope.

The Clean-Machine Protocol

Stop washing, start preventing.

  1. Check: Look through a Refractometer daily. If the line is high, add pure water or lean mix.
  2. Verify: Dip a Hardness Strip monthly. If water quality drifts, residue will spike.
  3. Skim: Keep the Skimmer running. If the tramp oil is in the bucket, it can't be on your window.
  4. Purge: If the machine is already coated, run Cleaner 100 EC for 24 hours to chemically loosen the old grime before a changeout.

Tech Tool Support

  • Lab Analysis: Is the residue white powder or brown goo? Send us a scraping. Our Fluid Maintenance Lab can tell you if it's Fungus, Hard Water Scale, or Dried Oil.
  • Stocked & Ready: All mixers, skimmers, and test kits are stocked in our distribution centers for immediate shipment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why are my parts sticky after drying?

A: You are likely running Too Rich. If your coolant is at 12%+, the water evaporates off the part, leaving a thick film of concentrate behind. Dial it back to 6–8% using a Refractometer and the stickiness will vanish.

Why is my safety window white and hazy?

A: That is usually Hard Water Scale. As the water evaporates on the warm glass, it leaves calcium deposits behind. You need to check your water hardness with Test Strips and potentially switch to treated water.

Will a skimmer really help with sticky parts?

A: Yes. Tramp oil is sticky. By removing gallons of hydraulic oil from the coolant loop with a Nimatic Skimmer, you ensure that the only thing touching your parts is clean, rinsing coolant.
