Foam Control: Stop Cavitation & Overflow

The Foam Essentials collection is designed for high-pressure shops where aeration disrupts production. When coolant foams, it's not just a mess—it causes Pump Cavitation (air pockets that destroy impellers), trips level sensors, and reduces cooling efficiency at the tool tip. This collection combines Diagnostic Tools to identify why you are foaming with Industrial Defoamers (Addi-Prox) to suppress it instantly, keeping your high-PSI through-spindle systems running smoothly.

The 3 Pillars of Foam Management

Foam is rarely "random." It is usually caused by Physics (Pressure), Chemistry (Soft Water), or Error (Concentration). This collection addresses all three.

1. Suppression (The Instant Fix)

Sometimes you just need to knock the foam down now to keep the machine running.

  • The Solution: Oemeta OePads (Anti-Foam Pods) are the ultimate convenience—just toss one in the flume. For precise dosing, Addi-Prox AF/C (Liquid Defoamer) allows you to dial in the exact suppression needed for 1,000 PSI systems.

2. Diagnosis (The Root Cause)

The #1 cause of foam is Running Too Rich. If your coolant concentration creeps up to 12% or 15%, it will foam.

  • The Solution: A Coolant Refractometer is your first line of defense. Before adding defoamer, check your percentage. If it's high, simply add water.
  • The Water Factor: Very soft water (< 5 grains) acts like a sponge for soap, creating massive foam. Use Hardness Test Strips to see if your water is "too clean" for the coolant.

3. Contaminant Removal (The Stabilizer)

While tramp oil often kills foam, emulsified tramp oil (oil that has reacted with the coolant) can form "soaps" that create stable, stubborn froth.

  • The Solution: Nimatic Belt Skimmers remove surface oils before they can chemically react with the sump, keeping the fluid predictable and stable.

The Anti-Foam Protocol

Don't just pour chemicals. Follow the steps.

  1. Measure: Check concentration with a Refractometer. If > 10%, add pure water to bring it down to 7–8%.
  2. Test: Check water hardness. If it is 0 ppm (RO Water), you may need to add Calcium Acetate (Hardening Agent) to reduce foam.
  3. Treat: If concentration is correct and it still foams, add 0.01% Addi-Prox AF/C or toss in 1 OePad. Wait 15 minutes before adding more.

Tech Tool Support

  • Stocked & Ready: All defoamers and test kits are stocked in Ohio & Utah for same-day shipping.
  • Lab Analysis: If you can't stop the foam, send us a sample. We can test if your water source has changed or if a contaminant (like floor cleaner) has entered the sump.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are OePads?

A: OePads are self-dissolving packets of concentrated defoamer. They are "operator-proof"—you don't have to measure liquids. Just throw one into the return channel (where the chips come out), and it will dissolve and circulate instantly.

Can I use too much defoamer?

A: Yes. Over-dosing defoamer can cause "fish eyes" (oil spots) on parts or destabilize the emulsion. Always start with the minimum dose.

Why does my high-pressure pump cause foam?

A: High pressure (1,000+ PSI) injects massive amounts of air into the fluid. If the coolant doesn't have fast "Air Release" properties, that air builds up as foam. You need a Defoamer specifically designed for high-shear environments.
